Black Sports self-titled album features Sleep Party People and others. Each track is a bit different and so the album feels more like a compilation with a little something for everyone. Plenty of Scandinavian hooks and hypnotic sounds. [Um, does the track Dive remind anyone else a bit of a Massive Attack/Prince mashup?] Plus it's FREE. This will get you through your midweek Hump Day blues. Trust. Taste. Enjoy.
*Edit: I should have been more specific, the free download was available for a limited time only. Sorry latecomers but go forth be brave and support the artists!
**9.7.12: Today it's free, who knows how long it will last...
The other night my friend and I had a cyber Smiths Dance Party. We’re both nerds for the Moz, as are so many of my friends. He’s often on rotation of course but he’s especially on the brain because for the 3rd or 4th time I’ll be attempting to see Morrissey in a couple of months. Attempting because for whatever reason, the universe has conspired to keep me from him so this WILL BE MY FIRST TIME EVER.
Pause for reaction.
Yeah… it’s probably pretty obvious I’m FOR REAL OVER THE MOON.
Did I ever tell you I hate my job? Like loathe it to my core.
I do not however hate Lali Puna and their track Nin Com Pop is just so beyond perfect and has put a smile on my work face for the first time this entire week.
This is the end of everything My head explodes But my heart sings [or sinks?]
This arpeggio encircling my heart in a lovely vise grip. Forever.
Be sure to check out their Bandcamp. Along with the above track, Sins of a Solar Empire, This Day, Terrorforming and Fallback Lighthorsemen have sunk their claws deep into my soft underbelly. I'm loving it so much and can't wait for total annihilation.
One of the more least charming traits of this wild summer are my vampire sleeping habits. Queue Insomniac Theater! Tonight, it's High Fidelity and my favorite character, Barry. Everyone always likes Rob, he's the obvious choice I guess for most but Barry is HILARIOUS. Also, I was so excited when I watched it for the first time and realized "Holy Smokes! There are other people out there who make themed mixes?!" I know, I know... basically I lived under a rock until 1999.
Barry: How about the Jesus and Mary Chain? Barry's Customer: They always seemed...
Barry: They always seemed what? They always seemed really great is what they
always seemed. They picked up where your precious Echo left off, and
you're sitting around complaining about no more Echo albums. I can't
believe you don't own this fucking record. (tosses the record to the
customer and walks away) That's insane. Jesus.
I was a Flower of the mountain yes when I put the rose in my hair like
the Andalusian girls used or shall I wear a red yes and how he kissed me
under the Moorish wall and I thought well as well him as another and
then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes and then he asked me
would I yes to say yes my mountain flower and first I put my arms around
him yes and drew him down to me so he could feel my breasts all perfume
yes and his heart was going like mad and yes I said yes I will Yes.
He is the first soul to have quoted James Joyce to me. Touched...
Lost Children have some seriously awesome tracks. If y'all haven't discovered them yet, you're missing out. I'm so obsessed with this song's hooks, it deserves its very own post. And maybe a billboard too.
Lost Children - Your Eyes
Check out the video [only 168 views at the time of this post] featuring too much adorableness. I'm going to geek out and listen to only this until I'm sick of it.
Please enjoy the music while your party is reached. Here's a fun little summer mix to wet your whistle and grease those summer wheels while I take a mini blogging vacation. I'm thinking of scheduling a couple of mini posts so hopefully you won't miss me too much.
Tracklisting:
Death and Vanilla - Run Rabbit Run
Lost Children - Your Eyes [my current favorite obsession]
Sally Shapiro - Miracle (Bogdan Irkuk remix, another obsession)
Molly Nilsson - Poisoned Candy
Still Corners - The Twilight Hour
Star Horse - How to Fall
A Place To Bury Strangers - You Are The One
Pollyester - Round Clocks
I can't believe it's been about a year since I played on 8tracks. Why did I ever stop?? That was fun.
"Like Shittin' In A Tall Field of Cotton..."Bobby Keys has a way with words and according to Keith Richards, "Mick needs to know what exactly he's doing tomorrow and I... I'm just happy to see who is around me when I wake up. He's rock and I'm roll".
Love love loved the documentary Stones in Exile. So many beautiful photographs and amazing quotes, I'm enthralled. Add to it some pot, sweet tea vodka cocktails [Southern girls need both sweet tea and booze and this concoction is the best of both!], star gazing [because this alien child also goes ga ga for Jupiter and Venus sightings] and mountain trip planning. I'm a happy girl and I'm pretty sure Keith would approve.
Last week I woke up with this idea for a blog post. I wanted to call it "Muddy Waters" but had no idea exactly what I wanted to say. In my mind, I had the mantra vision I always have when things are cloudy in my life. The muddy stream filled with sludgy silt and with calm, cool, quiet consideration the detritus, the sludge begins to filter away; to settle on its own and what is left is clear clarity; swift clean rushing thought. I open my 'music' only email and read this from Lykke Li,
You may have wondered what and where I've been and I also ask myself the same but as I may have mentioned before, sometimes answers can't be answered by questions. As the great Alan Watts would say: 'Muddy water is best cleared by leaving it alone.
Life has recently become very complicated. How to make decisions if you can't even voice the questions? This voice, this innerness is speaking VERY LOUDLY but the questions I want to ask remain hidden in the murk.
Through calm, collective thought, my dear friend perpetually reminds me that the best decisions come through clean water and peaceful sounds. Listening to this song, I hear her voice. She says through song, "Be calm, be still".
