Night On The Sun

In a dream I had last night, my best friend accompanied me for the first time into a rustic Tuscan style town I frequently visit alone. By unspoken rule, visitors are not allowed to view the river that runs through the town, but she, which is also typical of her waking life nature, wouldn't give up. We walked all over the city and could even speak the language - a curious mixture of French, Spanish, Romanian and Farsi.

We never did find a way to see the river though, the way was blocked by a tremendous wall.

Well there's one thing to know about this town
It's five hundred miles underground
Well there's one thing to know about this globe
It's bound and it's willing to explode.

Worth Being Naked

I would sell all my clothes for these two pieces. One thousand wordless sighs.

Rocket Boy

Remember this? Pay close attention to how she rhymes toy, boy, joy in the last two lines of each verse. Clever.

CHAUD

No cool off mixed cd would be complete without some kind of operatic overly dramatic crooning siren. This is my contribution. [Weird because she made my winter much warmer, guess she's magic that way, huh?]

She's All Grows Up

In my fantastically grown up future apartment, these might have a place.

What's your favorite type of flower?

I love all flowers really but I especially love carnivorous plants, though those aren't flowers I guess. In that case, I love red gladiolus and white hydrangeas.

Geek Attack

Via fellow blogger Leesa, via Kiddy Amunda for Craftzine.

Does anyone remember Logan's Sanctuary? The soundtrack to an imagined sequel of Logan's Run? I found it in a used bin way back in 2001 and the imagined plot in the liner notes is pretty epic - would have made an awesome sequel.

Russian field trip - it's serious. Talking about Gestapo Lefty.

Our House

Caught this film over the weekend - Two stand-out moments for me were when Annette Benning gives Mark Ruffalo a what for and says "You know what you are? You're a fucking interloper..." and when Julianne Moore's character tries to explain why women like gay man porn to her 15 year old son.

Sneak Peek

One last peek before I mail out the very overdue spring/summer mix. Claire Boucher has haunted my quiet times for months now. The bass and percussion on this track remind me of skeletons dancing.

Morbid Kitsch

Not to have a Milan Kundera moment but I really really love kitsch sometimes. I mean, if everyone can own a piece of Jesus' blood cloth we would all be saved, right?

Damien Hirst's For the Love of God is a platinum cast skull covered in over 8,000 diamonds. It cost £14 million to produce and sold for £100 million.

In the spirit of true kitsch, now you can make and own your own. Encouraged to enjoy a piece of art that´s as entirely individual as you are yourself , the kit comes with a plastic skull, 8,000 crystals and all the glue you'll ever need. A true steal at only £50.

Or you can make your version of Marc Quinn's Self, using your own blood of course. The kit comes with PVC blood bag, alginate, a silicon swimming hat and multiple bandages. Needles not included. £20

Also available, a Banksy stencil kit for £10.

Mid-week blues wear me out... you feel me?

You cocked your head to shoot me down and I don't give a damn about you or this town no more.

Quote Of The Day

"Look, we're basically on earth to shit and fuck. So unless your job's to help people shit or fuck, it's not that important, so relax."

Today even though Friday kind of sucks arse. This quote and website made my day. [oh hell it's a book too - badda bing! Today is looking up] Do yourself a favor, run don't walk to the Tumblr, the Twitter, the Amazon whatever to read this hilarious shizz.

Winteresque in July

I lived through the following spring, at eighteen, with that knot of air in my chest, but I struggled all the while against becoming serious. Becoming serious was not the same thing as approaching truth, I sensed, however vaguely. But death was a fact, a serious fact, no matter how you looked at it. Stuck inside this suffocating contradiction, I went on endlessly spinning in circles. Those were strange days, now that I look back at them. In the midst of life, everything revolved around death.

Excerpt "Norwegian Wood", Haruki Murakami

As much as I love Murakami, this book is better suited for cold weather reading, and so I'm thinking I might put this re-read to rest for a few months. The word is the film version will be released in Japan this winter. Jonny Greenwood is purportedly composing the score.

Thank you Evie for sending along these film stills.

WWKOD?

Today a partner company acquired a new COO, one with a penchant for anal-retentive efficiency and productivity. We were told in no uncertain terms any oversights or misuse of company time would warrant immediate action. Pshaw, thank you Evie for sending along a delicious design blog distraction.

These are a few of my favorite finds:

It's been a long time since I've heard a newish song by Bjork. Here she's collaborated with the Dirty Projectors on a 7 track ep with 100% of the proceeds going to the National Geographic Society to help create protected oceanic preserves... in the words of David Longstreth "so the oceans don't end up like a giant poisonous corpse hugging the continents."

David also says, "Don't listen on those tiny computer speakers - put it on the stereo and blast that shiiiiiiiiit!" Javol hauptmann. Donations are as little as $7 and you're doing something good for the earth.

Le Creative Sweatshop - project comprised of Ndeur and Make a Paper World are doing some really interesting things with paper.

Fellow blogger Evie also has a fascination with uncommon items made from paper.

School of Sleep

With the hurricane swirling in the Gulf, the weather here is super grey, windy and getting anything done is impossible. It's a day for School of Seven Bells and though I've posted the remixed Windstorm before, it's too fitting not to again. I'm so excited about their upcoming release. Time to bliss out love chops.
